Gildan 2000 (G200) Ultra Cotton T-Shirt: Complete Style Guide

The Gildan 2000 is the heavyweight champion of the Gildan t-shirt lineup. Also known as the G200, this 6.0 oz Ultra Cotton tee is the thickest and most durable standard t-shirt Gildan makes. Its substantial construction makes it the preferred blank for uniform programs, work crews, heavy-use promotional garments, and customers who want a shirt that holds its shape through hundreds of wash cycles.

DTF Printing on the Gildan 2000

The Gildan 2000 provides excellent DTF adhesion thanks to its thick, dense cotton construction. The heavier fabric absorbs more heat during pressing, so you may need to add 1–2 seconds to your standard dwell time.

Recommended DTF Press Settings:

The 6.0 oz fabric provides a rock-solid press surface — shirts stay put without shifting. The trade-off is that the thicker material gives DTF transfers a slightly stiffer hand feel compared to transfers on the lighter Gildan 5000 or Gildan 64000.

For a complete temperature reference, see our DTF Transfer Temperature Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Gildan 2000 and 5000?

The Gildan 2000 (Ultra Cotton) is 6.0 oz — thicker, stiffer, and more durable. The Gildan 5000 (Heavy Cotton) is 5.3 oz — a better balance of structure and comfort. The 5000 outsells the 2000 significantly because most customers prefer the lighter feel.

Is the Gildan 2000 good for screen printing?

Yes. The thick 6.0 oz cotton provides an excellent surface for screen printing with minimal ink bleed-through. It is a top choice for multi-color screen print jobs.

Does the Gildan 2000 shrink?

Minimal shrinkage (1–3%). The preshrunk treatment reduces most shrinkage before you receive the garment.
