Why Tri-Blend Is Special

Tri-blend fabric combines three fibers to get the best properties of each:

Polyester (50%) — Provides durability, shape retention, and wrinkle resistance. Keeps the garment looking crisp after multiple washes. Cotton (25%) — Adds breathability, softness, and moisture absorption. The combed ring-spun cotton used in the DM130 is the highest-quality cotton fiber. Rayon (25%) — The secret ingredient. Rayon gives tri-blend its signature drape, silky hand feel, and enhanced color saturation. It is what makes a tri-blend feel noticeably different from cotton or poly blends.

The result is a fabric that feels premium, drapes beautifully on the body, and has a subtle heathered texture that adds visual depth even before printing.

DTF Printing on Tri-Blend: What You Need to Know

The DM130 contains 50% polyester, which creates unique considerations for DTF printing:

ParameterSetting
Temperature295–305°F
Time12–15 seconds
PressureMedium (40–50 PSI)
PeelWarm peel
Pre-press3 seconds to remove moisture
BarrierTeflon sheet recommended on dark colors
### Dye Migration Risk

The 50% polyester content means dark-colored DM130 garments (especially reds, blacks, and navys) are at risk for dye migration — where the garment dye bleeds through the DTF transfer at high temperatures. Mitigation strategies:

Lower your temperature — Stay at or below 305°F. Going to 315°F on a tri-blend is risky. Shorter press time — 12 seconds is safer than 15 seconds on dark poly-blend colors. Use a Teflon barrier — Place a Teflon sheet between the heat platen and the transfer to distribute heat more evenly. Test first — Always do a test press on dark DM130 colors before running production. Check for color bleeding 24 hours after pressing, as some dye migration appears gradually.

The Drape Advantage

The rayon content gives the DM130 a drape that makes DTF transfers lay exceptionally flat on the body. Transfers on tri-blend do not have the stiff, floating appearance that can sometimes occur on heavyweight 100% cotton blanks. This makes the DM130 excellent for retail-quality printed merchandise.

For complete temperature guidelines, see our DTF Transfer Temperature Guide.

DM130 Color Options

The DM130 has the widest frost and heather color selection in the District catalog — over 40 colors:

Green Frost, Navy Frost, Military Green Frost, Maroon Frost, Fuchsia Frost, Blush Frost, Maritime Frost.

Heather Colors

Heathered Charcoal, Heathered Grey, Heathered Navy, Heathered Dusty Peach, Heathered Dusty Sage, Heathered Lavender, Heathered Neptune Blue, Heathered Russet, Heathered Teal, Heathered Forest Green, Flint Blue Heather, Coyote Brown Heather, Deep Orange Heather, Desert Tan Heather, Oatmeal Heather, Ochre Yellow Heather.

Solid Colors

Black, White, Natural, Deep Royal, New Navy, Charcoal, Deepest Grey, Classic Red, Gold, Bright Blue, Jewel Green, Lemongrass, Carnation Pink, Apricot, Aqua Heather, Ice Blue, Eucalyptus Blue. Color Note: The tri-blend fabric gives every color a subtle heathered texture, even the solid colors. Each garment will have slight color variations which add to the vintage, artisanal character that makes tri-blends popular for custom merch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DM130 good for sublimation?

The DM130 in white and light frost colors can accept sublimation due to its 50% polyester content. Results will be softer and more vintage-looking than on 100% polyester, which some brands actually prefer for a retail feel. However, DTF is still recommended for dark colors and maximum vibrancy.

Does the DM130 pill?

Tri-blends are inherently more resistant to pilling than standard cotton due to the polyester content. The DM130 maintains its smooth surface well through repeated washing.

What is the difference between DM130 and DM1350?

The DM1350 is the V-neck version of the DM130 tri-blend tee. Same fabric, same weight, different neckline.

Is the DM130 unisex?

Yes. The DM130 is designed as a unisex tee. District also offers the DM130L as the women's-cut version with a contoured fit.
