What Is 3-End Fleece?

Standard budget fleece (like Gildan 18500 or Jerzees 996MR) uses a 1-end or 2-end knitting construction. The DT6100 uses 3-end fleece, which means three yarn feeds create each row of the knit. This results in:

Denser fleece — More yarn per square inch creates a heavier, more substantial feel. Smoother interior — The 3-end construction produces a smoother, jersey-lined interior surface rather than the rougher brushed interior of budget fleece. Better print surface — The denser exterior nap sits flatter, which gives DTF transfers more consistent contact area during pressing. Superior warmth-to-weight ratio — At 8.3 oz, the DT6100 is only slightly heavier than a Gildan 18500 (8 oz) but feels noticeably warmer and more luxurious.

Pre-press5 seconds to flatten nap
### Fleece-Specific Tips Pre-press is non-negotiable — The 3-end fleece nap must be flattened before applying the transfer. Skip this step and you will get inconsistent adhesion with transfer edges lifting. Firm pressure — Fleece compresses under pressure. You need firmer pressure than t-shirts to ensure full contact between the transfer adhesive and the fabric surface. Heather and frost variants — The DT6100 in heather and frost colors uses a 60/40 cotton/poly blend. Reduce temperature by 5°F to 305–315°F to minimize dye migration risk on dark heathers. Hood considerations — When pressing chest prints that sit near the hood, fold the hood up and out of the way. Use a heat-resistant clip if needed. Fabric bunching from the hood can create uneven pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DT6100 worth the premium over Gildan?

For brands selling custom hoodies at $40+ retail, yes. The 3-end fleece, ring-spun construction, and retail-quality details (aluminum grommets, dyed-to-match drawcords) justify a higher retail price and create a better customer experience. For budget event hoodies, stick with Gildan or Jerzees.

Does the DT6100 pill?

The 65/35 ring-spun blend with 3-end construction is more pill-resistant than standard 50/50 fleece. While no fleece is completely pill-proof, the DT6100 maintains its smooth surface significantly longer than budget alternatives.

Why does the DT6100 go up to 6XL?

Like the DT6000 tee, District designed the DT6100 for the widest possible size range in the decoration market. The 6XL option is rare in fashion-quality fleece and is a significant differentiator for inclusive custom apparel brands.
