CorelDRAW 2026 Text-to-Vector AI: What DTF Shops Get
CorelDRAW's September 2026 update adds text-to-vector AI and a 4x faster PowerTRACE. Here's what it means for DTF logo cleanup, plus pricing and caveats.

For a DTF shop, the update matters in two everyday jobs: rebuilding a customer's blurry logo, and producing clean artwork that scales from a left-chest print to a full back. This article covers what is new, what Corel has not said, and how it compares with the free options.
What is in the September 2026 update
| Feature | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Text-to-vector AI | Creates editable vector artwork (objects, curves, nodes) from a text prompt or reference content | CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026, CorelDRAW Go |
| Quick AI Generate | New File menu command with a "Create a vector" option | CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 |
| Enhanced PowerTRACE | Redesigned bitmap-to-vector tracing, up to 4x faster, better color handling, AI background removal | CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 |
| Custom font uploads | Upload fonts to the browser version | CorelDRAW Web |
| DWG and DXF export | CAD exports from the browser version | CorelDRAW Web |
Prakash Channagiri, senior director of product management for CorelDRAW, said Corel is "bringing our AI power to the heart of what makes CorelDRAW great—vector graphics."
The March 2026 release had already added text-to-image generation, AI image remixing, one-click background removal, and AI-assisted masking. Corel said then that subscribers receive 2,000 AI credits a month.
What Corel has not said
- How many credits a vector generation uses. The September release notes do not list a credit cost for text-to-vector.
- Whether one-time license holders get the AI features. The release notes describe the update for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 without separating subscribers from perpetual licenses. AI credits were described in March as a subscriber benefit.
- Monthly price on the current pricing page. We could confirm the $269 annual and $549 one-time prices from Corel's March launch. CorelDRAW Go was listed at $9.99 a month or $99 a year.
Why vectors matter for DTF printing
DTF printers print raster images, usually a PNG at 300 DPI at the final print size. So why care about vectors? Because a vector file can be exported at any size with clean edges. One vector logo becomes a 3.5 inch left-chest PNG, a 12 inch front PNG, and a 14 inch back PNG, all sharp. Our vector vs raster guide explains the difference in detail.
The common shop problem is a customer who sends a 400-pixel logo pulled from a website. Tracing it into a vector, cleaning it up, and exporting a fresh PNG at full size is faster than redrawing it by hand. That is the job PowerTRACE has always done. The update's claimed four-times speed gain and AI background removal target exactly that workflow.
A DTF-specific caution about AI background removal
DTF film prints a white underbase under every colored pixel. Semi-transparent pixels left behind by background removal, such as a soft glow, a feathered edge, or a faint halo, can print as a muddy outline or a thin white fringe on dark shirts. After any automatic background removal:
- Zoom to 200 to 400 percent and check the edges.
- Remove partial transparency, or set a hard edge, before exporting.
- Export a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at the final print size.
Our DTF file prep guide covers export settings, and the free background remover roundup compares tools that do the same job.
Copyright and AI artwork
Two points before selling AI-generated designs:
- The US Copyright Office's 2025 report on AI and copyrightability concluded that material generated entirely by AI from a prompt is not protected by copyright. A shop may not be able to stop competitors from copying a design that is purely AI output. Human edits and arrangement can be protected.
- Corel says text-to-vector can work from reference content, including a logo or illustration. That does not grant rights to the reference. Tracing or regenerating a team logo, a brand mark, or a character still needs permission from the owner. Our licensed character guide covers where the lines are.
CorelDRAW vs the free options for DTF artwork
| Tool | Price | Bitmap-to-vector tracing | AI vector generation |
|---|---|---|---|
| CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 | $269/yr or $549 one-time | PowerTRACE (AI-assisted as of Sept. 2026) | Yes, text-to-vector |
| CorelDRAW Go | $9.99/mo or $99/yr | Not stated | Text-to-vector added Sept. 2026 |
| Affinity | Free | Not covered here; see our guide | No |
| Inkscape | Free, open source | Trace Bitmap | No |
A shop that already uses CorelDRAW, which is common among sign and screen print shops, gets the new tools in the software it knows. A new shop with no budget can trace logos for free. Our step-by-step Inkscape logo vectorizing guide shows how, and the Affinity guide and Inkscape guide cover the rest of the workflow. Corel offers a 15-day free trial with no credit card, which is enough time to test PowerTRACE on a stack of real customer logos before paying.
Frequently asked questions
What is CorelDRAW text-to-vector AI?
Text-to-vector is a September 2026 CorelDRAW feature that creates editable vector artwork from a typed prompt or from reference content such as a logo, illustration, or photo. The result has objects, curves, and nodes that can be recolored and edited like hand-drawn vector art.
How much does CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 cost?
At its March 3, 2026 launch, Corel listed CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2026 at $269 a year or $549 as a one-time purchase. CorelDRAW Go, the browser-based beginner version, was $9.99 a month or $99 a year. Corel offers a 15-day free trial.
Is CorelDRAW good for DTF transfers?
Yes. CorelDRAW is widely used by apparel and sign shops for logo cleanup, lettering, and layout. For DTF, export the final art as a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at print size, and check edges for semi-transparent pixels before sending to the printer.
Does the new PowerTRACE fix low-resolution customer logos?
It helps. PowerTRACE converts a bitmap into vector shapes that can be exported sharp at any size, and Corel says the September 2026 version is up to four times faster with better color handling. Very small or heavily compressed logos still need manual cleanup after tracing.
Can I sell AI-generated designs on DTF shirts?
A shop can sell them, but the US Copyright Office has said purely AI-generated material is not protected by copyright, so others may copy it. Generating art from someone else's logo or character still requires the owner's permission.
