What is changing for 2027
NIOSA is paused. The Conservation Society of San Antonio announced on Sept. 16, 2026, that it is pausing NIOSA, its four-night fundraiser in La Villita, for 2027. Texas Public Radio reported that the board voted 17-10, citing falling attendance and sales and the loss of usable space in La Villita. Members have since petitioned for a special meeting, so the decision may still be revisited. Shops that print NIOSA volunteer or booth shirts should hold those orders until the Conservation Society confirms its plans. The Oyster Bake becomes a music festival. St. Mary's University's Fiesta Oyster Bake will rebrand as the Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest on April 16 and 17, 2027, staying on the St. Mary's campus. KSAT reports two main stages, VIP viewing decks, the university's Battle of the Bands, and early presale tickets at $30 a day, rising to $35 during April and $40 at the gate. Volunteers will still run many food booths, which means volunteer shirt orders should continue. What the Fiesta Commission has registered
The Fiesta San Antonio Commission uses the registered trademark symbol on Fiesta, FIESTA FIESTA, and its event names throughout its site. According to USPTO records summarized by Justia, the Commission holds a registration for FIESTA (Reg. No. 5,677,761, registered Feb. 19, 2019) for charitable fundraising services, with a first-use date of 1959. The Commission's site also shows the registered symbol on Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Oyster Bake. The Commission lists licensed merchandise sales as one of its funding sources, and official merchandise is sold at vivafiesta.com.
What that means for a shop:
- Do not sell shirts with the official Fiesta logo, the annual poster art, official medal designs, or event names like Battle of Flowers, Fiesta Flambeau, or Fiesta Oyster Bake unless the owner approves.
- Do print for a participating organization using that organization's own name and logo, with its written approval.
- Do print generic celebration designs: papel picado, flowers, confetti eggs, flower crowns, and San Antonio pride.
The everyday Spanish word "fiesta" shows up on plenty of party shirts. The risk is in pairing it with San Antonio, the dates, and Fiesta imagery so that a buyer thinks the shirt is official. This is general information, not legal advice; ask the Commission when a customer wants an official mark.
Medals, the other Fiesta tradition
Fiesta medals are the collectible side of the season. Organizations, schools, and businesses design their own each year, and the Commission sells official medals through the Fiesta Medal Marketplace at Monarch Trophy Studio. Medal designs are often reused on shirts for the same group, which is a natural add-on order: a group that orders a medal design usually wants a matching tee. Confirm the group owns the medal art before printing it.
Shirt ideas that sell
Participating organizations and volunteers. Booth crews, parade float riders, and volunteers need matching shirts, often in bright colors so they can find each other. Print the organization's name, role ("Volunteer," "Float Crew"), and year. Parade watchers and office groups. "Viva San Antonio," "San Antonio in April," a flower crown, or a papel picado banner with the group's name. Office parade-day shirts are a reliable repeat order. Families and kids. Matching family shirts and kids' shirts for school Fiesta days. Our youth size guide helps with sizing mixed orders. Medal-matching shirts. The group's own medal art printed on a tee or tote, with the group's permission. There is no official color palette, but bright pink, orange, turquoise, lime, and yellow are what most Fiesta shirts use. DTF handles these multi-color designs without screen setups, which suits short runs for individual groups. Our western DTF transfer guide covers the other big San Antonio season, rodeo, which wraps up in February.
Production timing
- January to February: organizations finalize medal art and booth crews. Quote volunteer shirts early; this overlaps the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Feb. 11 to 28.
- March: office and family parade-day orders start.
- First two weeks of April: the rush. Print generic designs ahead and keep a sheet of extras ready.
- Fiesta week: reorders. Late April is also Kentucky Derby party season.
