Brother GTX Pro Series: DTG Printers That Also Print DTF

Is the Brother GTX Pro a DTF Printer?
The Brother GTXpro series is a line of direct-to-garment (DTG) printers that can also print DTF transfers. Brother marketed the GTXpro and GTXpro B for DTG first, with DTF on film sheets and an optional roll-to-roll kit. The GTXpro has since been replaced by the GTX300 hybrid, and Brother’s dedicated DTF printer is the DTRX100.
The confusion is understandable. The GTXpro was sold as a direct-to-garment printer, but Brother also promoted direct-to-film printing with its DTG machines, describing DTF as a way to decorate polyester, bulky items and small left-chest prints by printing a whole sheet at a time. For higher volume it offered the GTXpro R2R, a roll-to-roll DTF setup built around the same print engine.
So the GTXpro is not a DTF printer in the dedicated sense, but it is not DTG-only either. What changed in 2026 is the lineup around it: Brother launched the DTRX100 roll-to-roll DTF printer in June, replaced the GTXpro with the GTX300 hybrid in July, and removed the GTXpro R2R from its site.

How the GTXpro Prints DTF
On a standard GTXpro, DTF is a sheet workflow. Film goes on the platen, the printer lays down CMYK and then white, and the sheet is powdered, cured and pressed like any other DTF transfer. The powdering and curing happen off the printer, so throughput depends on the operator as much as the machine.
GTXpro R2R: the Roll-to-Roll DTF Setup
The GTXpro R2R added a roll attachment and Brother's PowDR powder unit so film printed, powdered and cured in one line. Brother's published specs:
| Specification | GTXpro R2R |
|---|---|
| Printing method | Direct to film, roll to roll |
| Roll width | Up to 40 cm (about 15.7 in) |
| Print heads | 2 (1 white, 1 CMYK), 1200 x 1200 dpi |
| Powder | PowDR unit with powder circulation and automatic powder addition |
| Curing | 2-3 minutes at 212-250°F in the PowDR unit |
| Weight with PowDR | GTXpro R2R approx. 665 lbs; GTXpro B R2R approx. 764 lbs |
| Power | Printer 100-240V, 80 W; PowDR 200-240V, 3,300 W |
| Software | Digital Factory Apparel DTF Edition or GTX Graphics Lab Basic Film |
Brother no longer lists the R2R setup. For new roll-to-roll DTF from Brother, the replacement is the DTRX100, which prints 31.5 inches wide with its own powder applicator and dryer.
GTX Pro vs. a Dedicated DTF Printer
A GTXpro earns its price on cotton DTG, where it prints straight onto the shirt with no film or powder. If the work is mostly DTF, a dedicated DTF printer costs less and runs film faster:
- Desktop DTF: the HTVRONT D2 ($2,599) and Roland VersaStudio BY2-20 ($7,995) print 13 and 18.89 inches wide.
- Production DTF: the Epson SureColor G6070 ($14,995) and Brother DTRX100 ($39,995) run film from rolls.
- Hybrid DTG + DTF: the Epson SureColor F1070 ($4,995) and Brother GTX300 ($16,995) are the current equivalents of what the GTXpro did.

FAQs
Is the Brother GTX Pro a DTF printer?
The Brother GTXpro series is a line of direct-to-garment (DTG) printers that can also print DTF transfers. Brother marketed the GTXpro and GTXpro B for DTG first, with DTF on film sheets and an optional roll-to-roll kit. The GTXpro has since been replaced by the GTX300 hybrid, and Brother’s dedicated DTF printer is the DTRX100.
Does Brother make a DTF printer?
Yes. The Brother DTRX100 is a dedicated 31.5-inch roll-to-roll DTF printer with its own powder applicator and curing unit, listed by an authorized dealer at $39,995 in September 2026. The GTX300 hybrid and the GTXpro B also print DTF transfers on film in addition to direct-to-garment.
Was the Brother GTXpro discontinued?
Yes. Brother’s GTXpro page now redirects to the GTX300, which Brother announced in July 2026 as a hybrid DTG and DTF printer with the same 16 x 21 inch print area. The bulk-ink GTXpro B is still in Brother’s lineup.
What was the Brother GTXpro R2R?
The GTXpro R2R was a roll-to-roll DTF setup for the GTXpro and GTXpro B. A roll attachment fed film up to 40 cm wide, and Brother’s PowDR unit applied adhesive powder and cured the film. Brother’s R2R page was live in January 2026 and was gone by May 2026.
Should I buy a used Brother GTXpro for DTF?
Only if you also want DTG. The GTXpro prints DTF one film sheet at a time and still needs powdering and curing, so a dedicated DTF printer is usually cheaper for DTF-only work. A used GTXpro makes more sense for shops that print mostly cotton DTG and want DTF for polyester and blends.
What is the difference between the GTX300 and the GTXpro?
Both print a 16 x 21 inch area at 1200 x 1200 dpi and handle DTG and DTF. Brother quotes the GTX300 at up to 42 dark or 57 light garments per hour against the GTXpro’s 40 and 55, and Brother lists continuous white ink circulation through the sub tanks, lines and head as a GTX300 feature.
