Thanksgiving Family Shirt Ideas 2026: Friendsgiving & More
Thanksgiving 2026 is Nov. 26, the day of the 100th Macy's parade. Family, Friendsgiving, and role shirt ideas, order dates, and what not to print.

This guide covers design ideas that sell, the dates that drive orders, blank and color choices, and what to avoid printing.
Key dates for Thanksgiving 2026
| Date | Event | What it means for orders |
|---|---|---|
| Sat., Nov. 21 | Weekend before Thanksgiving | Popular Friendsgiving date |
| Tue., Nov. 24 to Wed., Nov. 25 | Heaviest travel days | Shirts must arrive before families leave |
| Thu., Nov. 26 | Thanksgiving; 100th Macy's parade; turkey trots | Family photo day |
| Fri., Nov. 27 | Black Friday | Gift and holiday orders open |
| Sat., Nov. 28 | Small Business Saturday | Local shop promotion day |
The parade steps off at 8:30 a.m. Eastern in Manhattan. It debuted in 1924 and was suspended from 1942 to 1944, which is why the 2026 edition is the 100th parade. Expect "100th" and centennial themes to show up in customer requests, and see the section on what not to print below before you take those orders.
Thanksgiving family shirt ideas that sell
Family name plus year. "The Garcia Family Thanksgiving 2026" in a simple serif or script, with a small pumpkin or wheat graphic. It is the easiest upsell because every family member gets the same design in their own size. Role shirts. Matching shirts with a different line on each: "Head Chef," "Pie Inspector," "Gravy Boss," "Here for the Rolls," "Dishwasher in Training." Role sets sell in bundles of four to eight and work well on kids' sizes. Turkey and pie graphics. Original cartoon turkeys, pie slices, and leaf wreaths. Keep the art original rather than pulling from clip-art sites with unclear licenses. Grateful and thankful lettering. "Grateful," "Thankful," and "Blessed" in script still sell to adult women and church groups. Pair them with fall colors. Friendsgiving shirts. Friend groups want inside jokes, the host's name, and the date. "Friendsgiving 2026" with each guest's name on the back is a simple personalization that adds per-shirt value. First Thanksgiving baby shirts. "My First Thanksgiving" onesies and toddler tees, often ordered with matching parent shirts. Turkey trot crossovers. Many families run a turkey trot that morning and then wear the same shirt to dinner. Our turkey trot shirt guide covers race-day designs and performance blanks. Football-day shirts. Original lines about the game, the nap, and the leftovers. Avoid NFL team names and logos, which are trademarks.Blanks and colors
Fall palettes carry this season: rust, mustard, olive, maroon, cream, and heather brown. Garment-dyed tees in those colors photograph well indoors. The Gildan 5000 guide and the Bella+Canvas 3001 vs Comfort Colors comparison cover the blanks most shops use, and the blank apparel sizing charts help families order the right sizes from grandparents to toddlers.
Long sleeves and crewneck sweatshirts sell well in northern states by late November. A family that orders T-shirts in Texas may want sweatshirts in Michigan, so ask where they are celebrating.
For placement, a left-chest name with a large back design works for role shirts, and a centered front design works for the family name and year. The placement guide gives sizes for adult and youth shirts.
Order timing
Most families decide on shirts in the first two weeks of November. Work backward from the travel date, not Thanksgiving Day:
| If they travel on | Order mailed transfers by | Order from a local press by |
|---|---|---|
| Sat., Nov. 21 (Friendsgiving) | About Nov. 13 | About Nov. 18 |
| Tue., Nov. 24 | About Nov. 16 | About Nov. 21 |
| Wed., Nov. 25 | About Nov. 17 | About Nov. 22 |
Carriers get busier every week from mid-November on, so build in a buffer. Our holiday shipping deadlines post covers carrier timing, and the fast transfer suppliers guide lists suppliers with rush production.
What not to print
Macy's parade marks. "Macy's" and the parade's name and logo belong to Macy's. The giant balloons are licensed characters owned by other companies; the 2026 lineup includes a Sorcerer Mickey balloon, and Mickey Mouse is a Disney trademark. A generic "100th parade" balloon drawing with no characters or brand names is safer than anything that uses the parade's name or a character. Our licensed character guide explains why customer requests do not move the risk off the shop. NFL teams and logos. Thanksgiving football is a huge theme, but team names, logos, and wordmarks are trademarks. Use original football art and lines instead. Restaurant and food brands. Brand-name stuffing, soda, and pie logos are trademarks too, even on a joke shirt.Frequently asked questions
When is Thanksgiving 2026?
Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026. Thanksgiving in the United States falls on the fourth Thursday of November. Black Friday follows on Nov. 27 and Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28.
Is the 2026 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade the 100th?
Yes. The parade debuted in 1924 and was suspended from 1942 to 1944, so the Nov. 26, 2026 parade is the 100th. It starts at 8:30 a.m. Eastern at 77th Street and Central Park West and finishes at Herald Square.
What should a Thanksgiving family shirt say?
Popular options are the family name with the year, role lines such as "Head Chef" and "Pie Inspector," and short words like "Grateful" or "Thankful." Matching designs with a different role on each shirt sell well because every family member gets a personalized shirt.
When should I order Thanksgiving shirts?
Order mailed transfers or finished shirts about 8 to 10 days before the family travels, which means mid-November for most families. A local shop pressing transfers in-house can usually work closer to the date. Always plan around the travel day, not Thanksgiving Day.
Can I print the Macy's parade or NFL logos on a Thanksgiving shirt?
No. The Macy's name and parade marks, the licensed balloon characters, and NFL team names and logos are trademarks. Printing them without a license is a legal risk for the shop. Use original turkey, football, and parade-style art instead.
